The incident occurred when a cattle herder named Bikka was returning to the cattle shed with his buffaloes. When they were crossing from a place where water was accumulated in Jaspalon village, the buffaloes suddenly fell on the road. When Bikka went to check, he also suffered an electric shock and he rushed out of the water.

The villagers said that a snapped electricity wire had fallen on the road due to rain, and the electric current spread into the water.

Residents have accused Punjab state power corporation limited (PSPCL) of negligence which has resulted in the death of eight buffaloes.

Later, the locals alerted the police as well as PSPCL officials.

PSPCL XEN Gurmail Singh said that after the matter came to his notice, he had sent the SDO to the spot to check.

The reason behind the incident will be ascertained after receiving the report and if any employee is found to be at fault, action will be taken against him, Gurmail said.

ASI Baljeet Singh from Sadar Khanna police station said that the cattle herder has not submitted any formal complaint with the police. No FIR has been registered so far.
