Inter-College Weightlifting tournament:105 players vie for top honours

In the girls’ championship of Inter-College Weightlifting tournament on Monday, player Chanchal from Master Tara Singh College and Poonam from Government College, Ludhiana, clinched gold in the 45kg category.

As many as 105 students from different colleges of Panjab University participated in the two-day Inter-College Weightlifting tournament held at Mata Ganga Kaur Khalsa College on November 27 and 28.

In the girls’ championship on Monday, Chanchal from Master Tara Singh College and Poonam from Government College, Ludhiana, clinched gold in the 45kg category. In the 55kg category, Simran from Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, bagged the first position.

In 11 categories of matches held for boys, Chandan of GNN College, Doraha, bagged gold in the 55kg weight category, while Parveen Maru of MGKC clinched the first prize in the 61kg category. In the 67kg, Lovedeep Singh of GPC Allour won the gold medal and Manish Kumar stood first in the 73kg category.

In the matches for the 81kg category, Abhijeet Pandey of GPC Allour lifted the top trophy, while Gurkaran of MGKC emerged victorious in the 89kg category event.

Mohit Singh, Abhimanu Pandey and Tejveer from GPC Allour clinched gold in the 96kg, 102kg and +109 categories, respectively, while Avinash of SGGS Chandigarh recorded victory in the 109kg category .

The first position holders will participate in the All-India University weightlifting championship.
