A 26-year-old homemaker was convicted on Saturday of murdering her husband in his sleep at Jagannath Gourpara in Kamalpur of Tripura’s Dhalai district nearly three years ago, police said.

A local court on Friday sentenced the woman, identified as Jhuma Marar, to rigorous life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹5,000, failing which she will have to undergo an additional two months of imprisonment.
Police said the convict’s father-in-law filed a complaint at Kamalpur police station on May 30, 2023, accusing Jhuma Marar of strangling his son to death.
In his complaint, he stated that the deceased, identified as Mohan Marar (27), was sleeping with his wife Jhuma and their four-year-old daughter in his dwelling hut on the night of May 27. The next morning, they found him lying dead on his bed and later discovered a blackish mark on his neck.
After the police registered a case against her under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sub-inspector Debabrata Datta started the investigation and later filed a chargesheet on November 30, 2023. The trial court found her guilty and convicted her accordingly.
