Accused in vehicle vandalism case injured in police firing

Accused involved in a vehicle vandalisation case in Chandan Nagar area was injured in police firing on Saturday evening, said officials.

Police opened fire at the accused, identified as Omkar Bhandari, 25, of Bidi Kamgar Vasahat area, after he allegedly fired at the cops during a search operation at a forest area in Awhalwadi Phata at around 6pm.

According to the police, Bhandari allegedly damaged around 10 to 15 parked vehicles in Chandan Nagar area around midnight, triggering panic among residents.

Bhandari was shifted to a hospital and his condition is reported to be stable.

Somay Munde, deputy commissioner of police, said, “Bhandari is a habitual offender.”
