Congress to deliberate on Nashik fiasco, Tambe’s accusations, Thorat’s barbs in meet on Feb 13

Exposing the internal feud within the party, Thorat on Sunday had said that Satyajeet Tambe’s ‘rebellion’ episode was part of the dirty politics within the party

The state-level committee will meet on February 13 to review the recent loss in the Nashik graduate and teachers’ constituency polls as well as claims made by senior leader Balasaheb Thorat and suspended leader Satyajeet Tambe, said state Congress president Nana Patole in Pune on Monday.

Exposing the internal feud within the party, Thorat on Sunday had said that Satyajeet Tambe’s ‘rebellion’ episode was part of the dirty politics within the party. He also indicated having written a letter to party high command apprising the situation in Maharashtra. After keeping mum for more than a month, Thorat spoke for the first time as the controversy refused to relent.

Responding to allegations, Patole said, “I will not comment on the issues now since it will be discussed in the state committee meeting on February 13.”

“I don’t think Thorat has written any letter to high command. If he is disappointed with any issue, we will discuss it during the meeting. The meeting was originally scheduled on February 10, but due to the unavailability of some leaders, the meeting was postponed to February 13,” Patole said.

“The internal politics within the party was distressing for me. Some people spread misinformation about us and even said we were joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) though the distribution of the latter’s seats was over. We have been following Congress’s ideology all our life and will continue to do so. I have informed the party leadership in Delhi about the entire episode and appropriate action will be taken,” Thorat had said.

Thorat’s nephew Satyajeet won the Nashik division’s graduate constituency poll last week as an independent candidate, after the goof-up over the candidature at the party level. Congress had fielded his father and sitting MLC Sudhir Tambe though the Tambes were keen on fielding Satyajeet. This led to the rebellion by Sudhir, who refused to file his nomination and supported Satyajeet instead.

Satyajeet, after winning the seat, on Saturday hit out at Patole and said that he had hatched a conspiracy against the Tambes and Thorat.
