A vaginal self-sampling kit CerviSens aimed at making cervical cancer screening more accessible to women was launched by Pune-based Greenarray Labs in Pune on Saturday. A clinical study of the kit reported 98% sensitivity and 99.4% specificity in detecting high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infections.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr Sanjay Gupte, founder, Greenarray Labs, said, “The study ‘Validation of an in-house HPV CerviSens self-sampling kit: comparison against clinician-collected and self-collected samples’ published in Frontiers in Medical Technology on September 19, 2025 was conducted by researchers from Greenarray Genomic Research and Solutions and Gupte Hospital and Research Centre, Kothrud. It evaluated 203 paired self-collected and clinician-collected samples from women aged 35 to 65 years. The kit recorded 98% sensitivity and 99.4% specificity.”

“Cervical cancer is one of the cancers where screening can make a significant difference, yet many women do not undergo regular screening. One of the reasons is that the conventional process of sample collection may be uncomfortable or difficult to access for some women. Self-sampling provides another way for women to participate in screening while maintaining their privacy and comfort,” he said.
