As Pune city is scheduled to host two more G20 conferences; the first from June 12 to 14 and the second from June 19 to 21, and the first G20 conference coincides with the waris of the Sant Tukaram and Sant Gyaneshwar palkhis to be held from June 12 to 14, the administration is taking all possible precautions to avoid any untoward incident.
Central government officials visited the city on Tuesday to review the preparations for the two G20 conferences. Divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao, Pune municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar, and sports director Suhas Divase along with other officials were present at the meeting.
Diwase said, “It was a primary review meeting for the G20 conferences. We have suggested various locations for the meeting. We have even suggested the Balewadi Sports Complex for some meetings. The final decision about the venue will be taken by the central government team.”
Whereas Kumar said that an education committee meeting has been scheduled in Pune and various ministers and delegates from the G20 member countries are visiting the city for the same.
Civic officials pointed out that the timings of the waris and the first G20 conference in the city are coinciding. The officials said that they would draw from the experience they had of hosting the first G20 conference in Pune. The same precautionary measures would be taken and beautification works would be carried out in the city ahead of the two G20 conferences.
Pune district guardian minister Chandrakant Patil met experts from the education sector and reviewed preparations for the upcoming G20 conferences. “With help from all of Pune’s citizens, we will make both the G20 conferences a success,” he said.
