BCCI announces schedule for India’s tour of Zimbabwe, slots series shortly after England ODIs and T20Is

The BCCI has announced that India will tour Zimbabwe in July 2026 for a three-match T20I series, marking their first visit to the country since 2024, when they played five matches. The series will begin in Harare on Thursday, 23rd July, with the opening T20I. The second match is scheduled for Saturday, 25th July, also in Harare, followed by the third and final T20I on Sunday, 26th July, at the same venue. The Indian team will head to Zimbabwe after wrapping up their white-ball series against England, which concluded on July 19, featuring five T20Is and three ODIs.

This short series will give the Indian team a chance to test their combinations with young guns from IPL expected to get a call-up for the tour, while Zimbabwe will look to make the most of playing on home soil against a strong visiting side. In the past few Zimbabwe tours, the Indian selectors have given a chance to stars from IPL to get international exposure.

Zimbabwe displayed impressive composure in the T20 World Cup 2024, reaching the Super 8 stage. The team had a memorable tournament, recording wins over Australia and Sri Lanka to secure a spot in the Super Eights. However, they were unable to progress further and were eliminated last week. While they struggled in the Super 8 matches, those earlier victories highlighted the team’s growing quality and competitiveness over the past few years, showing that Zimbabwe can challenge top sides on their day. Their performance in the tournament reflected a side that has steadily improved and is capable of causing upsets against stronger opponents.

For India, several young players from the IPL will be watching this tour closely, as it presents a strong opportunity to earn a call-up to the senior team. With the 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon, it is unlikely that India will select all senior players for the Zimbabwe series, prioritising workload management and upcoming key tournaments. Senior stars such as Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya are expected to skip the tour to manage their schedules and fitness. This opens the door for emerging talent to gain international exposure and make a mark on the team ahead of bigger competitions.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe team is also scheduled to travel to India for a three-match ODI series in January 2027. The three ODIs will be played at Kolkata, Hyderabad and Mumbai respectively.
