Sourav Ganguly, who is part of the BCCI’s technical committee, welcomed the selectors’ decision to include Rahul Dravid in the probables for the Champions Trophy. “He’s so good in all forms. His inclusion will be a bonus for Indian cricket,” Ganguly said. “I’m sure he would do well. It’s the right decision. He himself would not have expected it,” Ganguly, who turned 37 on the day, said.

Ganguly also advised Irfan Pathan to take heart from the comebacks of Dravid and Ashish Nehra. “Irfan should look at Rahul Dravid and Ashish Nehra. If you keep performing well you are bound to bounce back. He’s young, talented and knows he has to do better,” said Ganguly. Pathan has been dropped for the Champions Trophy.

MS Dhoni’s captaincy also came in for praise, but Ganguly said it would be asking too much for the winning run to continue without end. “It’s bound to happen. You can’t go on for so long without hitting a lean patch. He’s a smart cricketer and has a good head.”
