The great MS Dhoni is set to lead the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023, in what could be his final season of the Indian Premier League. The four-time champions kick off their campaign on Friday, March 31 in the season opener against the defending champions Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. CSK had a rough season last year, finishing ninth in the standings. They had their worst league showing ever with 4 victories and 10 defeats in 14 matches and their season was marred with controversy off the field. 1 Dhoni eyes 5000 IPL runs
So far in his IPL career, Dhoni has amassed 4978 runs in 234 games at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 135, scoring 24 half centuries. Even though Dhoni is set to bat lower down the order, he is likely to score the 22 runs he needs to join the 5000-run club in the IPL. So far, only six other batters have reached the milestone and Dhoni would be the first full-time wicket-keeper to do so.

2 First-ever player to captain a single franchise in 200 IPL matches
The legendary Dhoni has currently led CSK in 196 games and is just 4 shy from becoming the first captain to lead a single franchise in 200 IPL matches. Mumbai Indians skipper, Rohit Sharma is second on the list with 143 caps as captain in the IPL for his team. Dhoni is also the captain with the highest winning percentage in the league with 60.
3 Dhoni can breach the 250 IPL sixes mark
Dhoni’s six-hitting prowess have been second to none over the years. He has clobbered 229 maximums in the league, which is the fourth most overall and the second most among active players. He already holds the record of most sixes by a wicket-keeper, and another 21 sixes would make him the first wicket-keeper to have hit 250 maximums in the IPL.
4 Dhoni on verge of 250 IPL games
The greatest wicket-keeper batsman ever to play in the league, MSD has featured in 234 IPL games so far. This is the most by any player in history, with Dinesh Karthik second on the list having made 229 appearances in the league. IPL 2023 will provide MSD with the opportunity to become the first-ever player to 250 IPL games. With 16 more games needed, the CSK skipper will hope that his team makes the playoffs again as that will allow him to create this new record.

Dhoni already holds the record for most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in the IPL with 170. Among these, 131 are catches and the rest 39 are stumpings. DK is second on the list with 159 dismissals to his name. The CSK skipper will be looking to further his tally with his sharp glovework behind the stumps.
