India penalised for slow over rate in final

The triumphant Indian cricket team has been fined for its slow over rate in the World Cup final against Sri Lanka, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said today.

World Cup champions India have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their final against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium here Saturday. Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined 20% of his match fee while the players were docked 10%.

“Match referee Jeff Crowe imposed the fine after India was ruled to be one over short of its target at the end of the match," the ICC said in a statement.

“The penalty was accepted by India without contest.”
