Chasing a target of 350 runs, South Africa were bowled out for 332 in 49.2 overs. The win saw India take a 1-0 lead in the ODI series. Krishna was up against Corbin Bosch in the final over and the visitors needed 18 runs. After a dot in the first ball, Prasidh struck, to remove Bosch for 67 off 51 balls. Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh removed Nandre Burger for 17 off 23 balls as SA went eight down, after Kuldeep Yadav completed his four-fer to remove Prenelan Subrayen (17). Kuldeep swung the game in India’s favour, dismissing Matthew Breetzke and Marco Jansen in the same over to seize complete control. Earlier, Marco Jansen hammered a whirlwind 26-ball fifty, completely shifting the momentum as South Africa clawed their way back into the contest and left India searching for answers. Harshit Rana brought an end to Dewald Brevis’ explosive counter-attack, dismissing the young star just when South Africa looked to build momentum. Kuldeep Yadav broke the defiant stand by dismissing Tony de Zorzi for 39, prompting a loud roar from Virat Kohli as he fired up the Ranchi crowd. Arshdeep Singh joined the wicket-taking spree by dismissing Aiden Markram, adding to South Africa’s troubles after Harshit Rana had already wreaked havoc up front. Rana silenced his critics in emphatic fashion, striking twice in his very first over and leaving the South African coach visibly stunned by his impact. Virat Kohli produced a scintillating 135, guiding India to a formidable total of 349/8 against South Africa, while Rohit Sharma smashed a record-breaking number of sixes. Skipper KL Rahul played a crucial 60-run cameo towards the end, and Ravindra Jadeja contributed a fighting 32 to help India close in on a 350-run target.

Kohli’s brilliant innings came to an end as he tried to accelerate further, but the Ranchi crowd erupted in applause, with head coach Gautam Gambhir giving him a standing ovation. The knock marked his 52nd ODI century, prompting a fan to breach security and fall at his feet.

Earlier, Washington Sundar fell under pressure, bringing KL Rahul to join Kohli at the crease amid a roaring home crowd. Dewald Brevis had earlier stunned the stadium with a spectacular diving catch to dismiss his CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, while Rohit Sharma walked off after a fluent fifty, turning down Kohli’s DRS advice.

Virat Kohli smashed Corbin Bosch for a six to reach his half-century in style, delivering a sensational knock, while head coach Gautam Gambhir applauded his efforts from the dugout. Rohit Sharma also reached the mark with a single here as the two stalwarts are punishing the Proteas bowlers here.
