Chasing 301 runs, the hosts were four down when rain stopped play in the second innings. Devendran struck twice in the early phase, removing opener Lagadien and then SA skipper Bulbulia. In the first innings, JJ Basson took four wickets as India were bowled out for 300 in 50 overs. The first innings also saw a bizarre lightning delay for sometime towards the end, but no overs were reduced. The Proteas had a strong start, getting openers Aaron George (5) and Vaibhav Suryavanshi (11) early. George was removed by Bayanda Majola and Suryavanshi lost his wicket to JJ Basson. Meanwhile, Vedant Trivedi (21) and Abhigyan Kundu (21) tried to revive the innings, but were sent back to the pavilion.
