West Indies Women vs Scotland Women Commentary

9:18 PM IST Over and out - That wraps up an entertaining contest, with West Indies Women picking up a crucial two points against Scotland Women. The action in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 now moves to the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton, where New Zealand Women take on Ireland Women in a Group B clash on Friday, 19th June. The first ball is scheduled for 5.30 pm GMT, but do join us a little earlier for all the build-up and pre-match updates. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
9:18 PM IST The victorious skipper of West Indies Women - Hayley Matthews says it is still sinking in after a very close game and admits there were plenty of nerves around, but she is glad that they got over the line. She credits Scotland Women for bowling in the right areas and says both she and the other batters struggled to find different scoring options. Matthews feels Stafanie Taylor made the difference with her classical strokeplay and praises her versatility and experience, especially in a slightly different role. She also notes that it was clear from the first innings that spin was difficult to get away, which is why she wanted her spinners on as early as possible. She reveals that Shemaine Campbelle had been unwell since the morning and was only a 50-50 chance to play, while Deandra Dottin's passion and desire to contribute remain unquestioned despite an unfortunate outing. Looking ahead, Matthews says every World Cup game is hugely important and expects a big challenge against Sri Lanka Women, adding that they will need to perform better than they did in this game.
9:11 PM IST The captain of Scotland Women - Kathryn Bryce says that they started well but lost their way towards the end. She adds that they were a bit sluggish on their lines and lengths and that is what cost them the game. She reckons that they played good cricket and West Indies Women were smart with their pace off bowling. Bryce mentions that Carter was brilliant and Lister fought well, as they always felt they were in the hunt. Ends by saying that they are excited for their next game against England, and they will give their best.
9:10 PM IST PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Stafanie Taylor wins the award for her crucial knock of 47* off 19 balls. She says that she feels good to be back and she never likes it on the sidelines. She adds that she was going to bat at number 5, but because of the situation, she came in at number 7. Taylor further says that she was targeting a boundary in every over. She reckons that she worked on her technique and that is what helped in improving her batting.

Qiana Joseph to Gabriella Fontenla, 1 run

72.7kph

OUT! RUN OUT! Short and wide, Gabriella Fontenla moves to her off side and pulls it through mid-wicket. She calls for a second run. Jahzara Claxton picks it up and throws it towards the keeper, Mandy Mangru, who whips the bails off in a flash. Gabriella Fontenla was way too short. Scotland Women have been bowled out for 146 on the final ball. West Indies Women win by 7 runs.
