Australian team performance manager Pat Howard on Friday said Johnson will continue to work with medical staff before approval is given for his return to action.

Johnson will travel with the Australian squad on Sunday to the United Arab Emirates for a tour which includes two Tests, three one-dayers and a T20 match against Pakistan.

Shane Watson has been ruled out of the tour with a right ankle injury and Michael Clarke is hoping to recover from a hamstring injury in time to play in the Test matches.
