Left Handed Batsman

Marcus Harris is a left-handed opening batter who emerged through the Western Australia pathway before making his first-class debut for the state in 2011. He made an immediate impression, scoring 157 in only his third first-class match to become the youngest Australian to make a first-class score of 150. After several seasons with Western Australia, Harris moved to Victoria in 2016, a change that helped establish him as one of the more consistent opening batters in the Sheffield Shield.

In the 2014-15 Sheffield Shield final, Harris produced a standout performance for Western Australia against Victoria, scoring 81 and an unbeaten 158 to earn Player of the Match honours, although the match was drawn and Victoria retained the title.

Four years later, after moving to Victoria, he played another defining role in the 2018-19 decider, scoring 141 against New South Wales to help Victoria claim the Shield. Harris was named Player of the Match again and finished the season as the competition's leading run-scorer with 1,188 runs, including a superb career-best unbeaten 250 against South Australia.

His consistency eventually earned him an Australia call-up, and he made his Test debut against India in Adelaide in December 2018. In only his second Test, in Perth, Harris scored his maiden Test half-century and went on to finish the series with 258 runs, including two fifties.

His performances started to be inconsistent, and a tame 2019 Ashes series cost him his place. He returned to the side two years later against India and was also included in the 2021-22 Ashes squad, as Australia secured a 4-0 series win over England. Since then, he has not featured for the national side, with competition for places making a return difficult, but Harris has continued to grind away in domestic cricket, maintaining his reputation as a prolific and experienced red-ball opener.

Alongside his domestic career, Harris has become a familiar figure in English county cricket, representing Leicestershire and Gloucestershire before joining Lancashire. He also enjoyed productive spells in the Big Bash League, with his most prolific seasons coming for the Melbourne Renegades in 2016-17 and 2017-18, when he scored 220 and 324 runs respectively.

After making the move to Lancashire, he continued to underline his value at the top of the order, scoring 676 runs in 12 County Championship Division Two matches in 2026, including a fine 146. He also scored 391 runs in 9 games in the One Day Cup, helping them to a quarter-final finish.
