Right-arm fast medium Bowler

Scott Michael Boland, born in Mordialloc, Melbourne, has carved a unique path in Australian cricket with his extraordinary consistency and sharp accuracy as a right-arm fast-medium bowler. Boland holds a special place in Australian cricket history as one of the few Indigenous Australians to play at the highest level. He is only the second Aboriginal male to represent Australia in Test cricket, following Jason Gillespie. This significant aspect of his heritage emerged in 2017 when Boland's family discovered their connection to the Gulidjan tribe of Victoria. Since then, he has actively embraced his roots, participating in Indigenous cricket programs and representing Australia in Indigenous teams.

Scott's cricketing journey began at Parkdale Cricket Club, where he started playing at the age of six. He later joined Frankston Peninsula, where he honed his bowling skills, eventually earning a rookie contract with Victoria after an impressive 2010/11 season, taking 33 wickets. His standout Sheffield Shield performances, including a memorable seven-wicket haul against Western Australia and a stellar 2018/19 season with 48 wickets, solidified his reputation as a top domestic bowler. He went on to become Victoria's all-time leading Shield wicket-taker, passing Paul Reiffel in February 2024, and later added a match haul of 10/102 against New South Wales.

Boland made his ODI debut for Australia on January 12, 2016, against India, though his first outing proved challenging, conceding 0/74. His white-ball career-best figures of 3/26 came against Sri Lanka in T20Is. He also had a brief IPL stint with the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016. Test cricket marked the true turning point of his career. Boland made his debut during the 2021/22 Ashes at the MCG and delivered one of the most memorable performances in Australian cricket history, taking 6/7 in England's second innings to seal victory and earn the Mullagh Medal. He finished that series with 18 wickets at 9.55.

In June 2023, Boland played a critical role in Australia's win over India in the ICC World Test Championship final, taking five wickets across the match, including Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. That year's Ashes in England, by contrast, was the one genuine setback of his Test career. Playing just two of the five Tests, at Edgbaston and Headingley, he found himself deliberately targeted by England's batters and finished with only two wickets. He signed with Durham for the first half of the 2024 county season, playing across the County Championship and T20 Blast.

Back in Australian conditions for the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, Boland produced arguably the finest series of his career after coming into the side at Adelaide following an injury to Josh Hazlewood. In the fifth Test at Sydney, he claimed his maiden ten-wicket match haul, taking 6/45 in the second innings to dismiss Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah in successive balls, and closed the series with 21 wickets, including four dismissals of Kohli.

On Australia's 2025 tour of the West Indies, Boland took his first Test hat-trick during the Frank Worrell Trophy series, finishing with 6/36. The 2025/26 Ashes on home soil then doubled as redemption for the 2023 tour. Taken apart on the opening day in Perth, he responded with a three-wicket burst that removed Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook inside 11 balls, a spell widely credited with turning the match, and the series, back in Australia's favour. A later spell at the SCG, in which he dismissed Joe Root for a first-baller, underlined the point. Australia went on to retain the Ashes 4-1, with Boland being the second-highest wicket-taker in the series for the home side behind Mitchell Starc.
