Irfan Pathan

A teenager whose late, sharp left-arm swing drew immediate comparisons to legendary seam bowlers, Irfan Pathan was born on October 27, 1984, in Baroda, Gujarat. He broke onto the international stage as a 19-year-old during India's tour of Australia, taking his Test cap at Adelaide in December 2003 before making his One-Day International debut a month later at Melbourne. Pathan's ability to bend the brand-new ball viciously into right-handed batters made him an instant sensation, highlighted by an extraordinary first-over hat-trick against Pakistan at Karachi in January 2006 that stands as one of the most remarkable feats in Test history.

As his career progressed, Pathan evolved into a vital balance-provider for India through his technical development into a clean-striking, middle-order batter.
