Usman Khawaja

Age 39AustraliaAUSTRALIA
Left Handed Batsman
A pioneer of quiet determination, technical grace, and remarkable resilience, Usman Tariq Khawaja transformed from an elegant top-order talent into one of Australia's most compelling modern cricket figures. Born on December 18, 1986, in Islamabad, Pakistan, before emigrating to Sydney as a child, Khawaja broke historic ground in January 2011 when he became the first Pakistani-born and first Muslim cricketer to represent Australia in Test cricket. Possessing an effortless, languid style marked by soft hands, silken wristwork, and exceptional touch against spin, his journey embodied the evolving multicultural fabric of Australian sport.

Khawaja's defining legacy lies in his extraordinary international second act. After nearly two and a half years in the Test wilderness, he earned a dramatic recall for the 2022 Sydney Ashes Test, marking his return with twin centuries (137 and 101 not out) in the same match. That defining moment sparked a late-career renaissance where Khawaja re-established himself as an anchor at the top of the order.

He went on to dominate Australia's historic 2022 tour of Pakistan, compiling 496 runs at an average of 165.33 to earn Player of the Series honours. His consistency culminated in a vital role during Australia's 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship triumph, where he finished as Australia's top run-scorer in the cycle and earned the 2023 ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award alongside the Shane Warne Test Player of the Year honour.

Beyond his playing contributions, Khawaja emerged as an influential advocate for inclusivity, equality, and social causes in international sport, earning the Community Impact Award at the Allan Border Medal ceremony.

Across 88 Tests, Khawaja scored 6,229 runs at an average of 42.95, featuring 16 centuries and 28 fifties, highlighted by a career-best 232 against Sri Lanka in 2025. In 40 One-Day Internationals, he accumulated 1,554 runs at an average of 42.00 with two centuries and 12 fifties, alongside 241 runs in nine T20 Internationals. Marked by quiet grace and conviction, Khawaja leaves an indelible blueprint for future generations both on and off the field.
