'When someone films a movie, watch it in theatre and then criticise it': India's Ashwin finds The Hundred 'enjoyable'
India off-spinner R Ashwin, who is currently in England, preparing for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, took to his YouTube channel to explain the format of The Hundred and share his views on the same.
Change is inevitable and is the only constant in the world, as they say. It often takes time to get used to them as some take longer than others. Some appreciate it, some don't. The same is happening with cricket's newest format, The Hundred. As the name suggests, it's a 100-ball hit out between two teams with some tweaks to the format. The tournament has not only grabbed eyeballs but has also received heaps of appreciation and criticism. Joining the discussion now is senior India off-spinner R. Ashwin.
The Tamil Nadu all-rounder, who is currently in England with the Test squad, preparing for the upcoming five-match series against England, took to his YouTube channel to explain the format and also send out a message to the viewers who seemed to have jumped the gun.
“Those who did not understand this format commented vaguely about frequent changes in rules and formats. To many, innovation is not encouraged and is often misunderstood. When someone films a movie, we should watch it in the theatre and then criticise it. Making irrelevant comments even before going to the theatre does not work. We should appreciate the attempt and give credit to it,” Ashwin quipped.
The 34-year-old also added that he loved what he saw during the game between Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals and that "women’s cricket is here to stay".
“I watched a women’s game between Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals. Though names were different, the game was outstanding, and women’s cricket is here to stay. I’d be glad if women’s IPL is all set to happen.
"Hundred format has had an exciting start, and let’s see how it goes. Many believe this format can affect the performances of players. But I have found The Hundred enjoyable, and it can be called a sporting festival season. After tough times, experiencing live sports in cricket is something great,” concluded Ashwin.
The first India-England Tests begins on August 4 at Trent Bridge.
