Kidney transplant: Complainant records statement against Rekha Arya’s husband

Inspector KR Pandey of Haldwani Kotwali had summoned Gangwar to record his statement. Gangwar, he said, repeated what he had said in the letter that his kidney was taken by ‘cheating’ him. The next phase of investigation would begin after this and the police would now summon Sahu for recording his statement.

Earlier, the man from Bareilly had alleged Sahu didn’t keep his promise of giving a house and handsome money to him in exchange for a kidney transplant for his first wife in 2015. Sahu, however, has refuted the charge.

Gangwar had written a letter to Nainital SSP Janmejay Khanduri saying that he was taken to Sri Lanka in June 2015 where his kidney was transplanted to Sahu’s first wife Vaijyanti Mala. Gangwar alleged that he was told that he would be undergoing a blood transfusion but he woke up in hospital only to find that his kidney was removed.

On Monday, Sahu held a press conference in Haldwani where he declared that Gangwar’s statement of coercion or enticement for donating kidney was false. Being a relative of Vaijanti Mala, he added, Naresh voluntarily offered to donate his kidney.

The opposition Congress has mounted offensive against Sahu to target women empowerment minister Rekha Arya. “It is a serious matter and the CM should take notice. I have come to know that the Sri Lanka hospital where the kidney transplant was conducted is black listed. The Congress party will raise this issue in the upcoming session of the state assembly,” said Karan Mahra, the deputy leader of opposition in the state assembly.
