The BJYM members were given instructions in this regard by the saffron party’s state leadership at a two-day working member committee meeting of the youth wing, which concluded at Kotdwar in Pauri district on Sunday.

The BJP youth wing had played an active role during campaigning for the assembly election earlier this year, which saw the saffron party winning as many as 57 of the 70 assembly seats.

“Based on the directions received, we will now activate our teams, which had worked during the time of the assembly polls. Our members will soon begin groundwork by holding mass contact programmes in their respective areas to give an edge to the (BJP’s) preparations for the crucial civic polls,” BJYM’s state president Kundan Latwal told HT.

Many other issues concerning the youth were also taken up at the state-level meeting. “It was decided that the BJYM will actively press for resolution of youth issues like unemployment, downward migration from hills and for formation of a dedicated youth/sports policy of the state,” a BJYM member, who was present during the convention, told HT.

The two-day meeting was attended by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and BJP’s state president Ajay Bhatt. Besides, many ministers including Prakash Pant, Harak Singh Rawat and Dhan Singh Rawat were also present. BJYM leaders also carried out a cleanliness drive as a part of the two-day meeting. The next such meeting is likely to be held at Nainital after three months.
