The Delhi Police on Wednesday said it has not filed a chargesheet in the sedition case against JNU students Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and others. The case is being investigated by the special cell, which deals with terror and heinous crimes.

Special Commissioner of police Dependra Pathak who is also the police spokesperson said the reports of police finalising the chargesheet is ‘in the realm of speculation’. “The case is still under investigation. It is a sensitive case so we would request everyone not to speculate. As of now, there is no finality. Chargesheet will be filed but not now.”

The case was registered last year on the complaint of a police officer, who reportedly saw a video clipping on Zee News, which showed JNU students raising anti-national slogans.

ABVP, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), will protest against the Delhi Police for inadequate and delayed investigation. Police have not even filed a chargesheet in the case. While police usually file a chargesheet and send the case to trial, in this case they are yet to file one. All the arrested students Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirbhan Bhattacharya are out on bail .
