Male students bagged the top three positions in the Kerala medical entrance examinations, the results of which were announced by state education minister C Ravindranath on Wednesday.
As many as 1,04,787 students qualified in the examinations conducted on April 27 and 28.
Boys bagged seven of the top ten positions, outshining girls. While Muhamed Munavar from Kannur in north Kerala got the overall first rank, Dipin Raj from Thiruvananthapuram topped in the SC/ST category.
Speaking on the occasion, Ravindranath said admissions to government medical colleges and self-financing institutes will be based on the entrance examination conducted by the state this year.
Kerala was the only state that conducted the state entrance examination before the Supreme Court ruled that admissions to all medical colleges should be carried out solely on the basis of marks acquired in the national eligibility-cum-entrance test (NEET).

State entrance commissioner BS Mavoji said the decision to publish the results was taken after a copy of the latest ordinance promulgated by the Union government was received.
Though the Kerala government had approached the Supreme Court, asking it to modify its order that the state can’t conduct a separate medical entrance test, the plea was turned down. However, the court provided students who missed the first NEET test with a chance to appear for a re-test on July 24.
