DU admissions: 22 colleges relax cut-offs for girl students

As many as 22 Delhi University colleges are relaxing their cut-offs for girl students by up to 3% to encourage them to pursue higher education.

Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD) College, Deen Dyal Upadhyaya College, Zakir Hussain, Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, PGDAV College, Dyal Singh College and nine other colleges will be relaxing their cut-offs by 1-3 % in all courses, according to a list released by the university.

“This is a step to encourage girl students to pursue higher studies in various courses. These colleges inform us about the relaxation, and we upload it on our website so that students are made aware of it,” said J M Khurana, dean (students’ welfare), DU.

Ramjas College is offering a 3% relaxation in Hindi, Sanskrit and Political Science courses, while Ram Lal Anand College is offering a 2 % relaxation in popular courses such as Computer Science and B Com (Hons).

“The relaxation helps many girl students pursue popular courses. We have observed that this rule has helped us in maintaining gender parity in classrooms,” said Vijay K Sharma, principal of Ram Lal Anand College.

Similarly, Motilal Nehru College, Rajdhani College, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College and Swami Shraddhanand College are offering the relaxation in B.Com (Hons).

Admissions under the second cut-off list will begin on June 30. A total of 54,000 undergraduate seats are on offer.
