AISA wants DU to build new hostels to accommodate more students and is urging them to write postcards.

AISA wants DU to build new hostels to accommodate more students and is urging them to write postcards.

It said the government should apply rent control norms on private accommodation. “Till the time that is done, DU must provide allowance (HRA) to students living in rented accommodations,” it said.

There are only 3,455 hostel seats for 1.6 lakh undergraduate students at DU. Most outstation students are forced to live in rented accommodation.

This year, almost 50% of the 2.5 lakh applicants to DU were from outside Delhi.

“On August 9 we will conduct a march after which all the postcards will be delivered to the VC. Till now we have collected postcards from 8,000 students,” AISA said.
