Shailendra Maheshwari, Director of Career Point Institute, Kota said the two Physics questions having multiple answers would not affect students adversely, but that there were two more questions which were apparently wrong.

The CBSE, while issuing the JEE (Mains) answer key on Monday, admitted that there were multiple answers to two Physics questions in the JEE (Mains) 2016 question paper.

Shailendra Maheshwari, Director of Career Point Institute, Kota said the two Physics questions having multiple answers would not affect students adversely, but that there were two more questions which were apparently wrong.

“One question in Chemistry based on the Mole concept had the wrong answer whereas another question based on Binomial theorem in Mathematics was conceptually incorrect,” he said.

Maheshwari added that since it was a genuine fault in the paper, students should be given bonus marks. Similar views were expressed by Brajesh Maheshwari, Director of Allen Career Institute, Kota, who said since JEE (Mains) is a prestigious examination, CBSE should avoid such mistakes in the question paper since it leads to loss of marks.

Nitin Vijay, Director of Motion IIT Academy, said they had analysed the examination paper of JEE (Mains) which was held on 3rd of this month (April) in which there was goof up in one question each in Chemistry and Mathematics. “It will be in the interest of the students if bonus marks are given for such question”, he said.

Students, too, concurred. Eighteen-year-old Shashi Prakash from Jharkhand said that when so many coaching institutes expressed doubts about the questions, then there must be something wrong. He added that bonus marks be awarded for these.

Another aspirant, Mohammad Aftab Aalam from Bihar, said he was not sure whether CBSE would give bonus marks for the erroneous questions but said that if they did so, it would be beneficial for the large number of IIT and NIT aspirants for whom the JEE (Mains) were crucial to secure admissions.
