I did Food & Nutrition at Lady Irwin — I wanted to be a dietician. I was in an all-girls school in Meerut and thought college will be so cool. But they were very strict. They had very strict attendance . The course had subjects like zoology, biology, etc… it was like being back in school.

Fun and adventureBecause we were hosteliers, the excitement was all about slinking out of the back door in the evenings. I was in college 2 weeks back, and saw they had closed that gate and made a brick wall there! I remember going to Bengali Market, CP and for plays to Kamani auditorium and NSD. Once, a group of us had gone to CP for a movie, and obviously got late… it must have been about 10.30-11 pm. And there was a group of old drunk guys following us. We’d to make a dash for the college gate. It was very scary.

Ragging There was so much ragging in college! Once, Manpreet Brar came and ragged me in the hostel. We were made to carry books in buckets. The fucchas had to make 40 plaits dripping with oil every day. For one month, you were smelling of oil. Then, they’d make us wear salwar- kurtas inside-out and take us to Bengali market. Once when they took us, a group of good-looking boys was there. I was told to go up to them and say, ‘Tha! Tha! Mar gaya!’ It was the most embarrassing thing in my life.
