Despite Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHTCET) for undergraduate courses will be held online for the first time this year, the number of exam centres has been reduced to 166 from the last year’s 1,260 for the pen-and-paper pattern.
The officials attributed this decline to the limited number of computers available at the exam centres.
Starting Thursday, around 4.13 lakh engineering, pharmacy and agriculture aspirants will take the test which will be spread over 12 days. The exams will be held in two shifts every day from May 2 to 13, except for a break during National Eligibility-cumEntrance Test (NEET) for health science courses on May 4 and 5. Moreover, exams will be conducted in a single shift on May 6.
“Based on the subjects chosen, centres preferred and availability of computers, candidates have been allotted exam dates and centres in every district,” said Anand Rayate, commissioner, CET cell.
Of the several entrance tests conducted by the state, MHTCET is the biggest as it is a gateway for undergraduate courses in engineering, pharmacy and agriculture.
This year, the number of aspirants registered for the test has dipped by 5% as compared to 4.36 lakh registrations in 2018.

{{/usCountry}}Out of 4.13 lakh aspirants who registered for MHT-CET this year, 1.20 lakh have opted for physics-chemistry-mathematics (PCM) combination while 1.22 lakh chose physics-chemistry-biology (PCB). Around 1.7 lakh aspirants will appear for all four papers — physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology (PCMB). Also, 16,000 aspirants giving the exams are from outside Maharashtra.
