Srinwati Debgupta, 17, who jointly secured the second position across the country in the ISC examination, is yet to come to terms with her performance. With an aggregate of 99.75% she is also the joint-topper in Delhi-NCR. A student of the Shri Ram School, Aravali, Debgupta was pleasantly surprised by her performance. “I checked the website at 3 pm and was quite taken aback by the result. A friend called to inform that I had secured the second rank in the country. The news hasn’t sunk in as yet,” she said.

Apart from academics, she also takes a keen interest in painting, debating and participating in Model United Nations. “During weekends, I would study for 7 to 8 hours. The number of hours went up as the examinations approached but I kept my focus on quality study,” said Debgupta.
She added that her teachers and parents had been a great source of support. “My mother cried when she saw my result. My father was also very happy. We are all positively overwhelmed,” she said.
With a score of 399 in total and 99 in mathematics, Debgupta aims to pursue mathematics honours from Delhi University’s St. Stephen’s College. “Stephen’s has always been my dream college. I am hoping to secure admission in mathematics honours,” added Debgupta. Her mother, Dipanwita Debgupta, said that Srinwati was inclined towards academics. “Instead of opting for a course in medicine or engineering, she plans to take up mathematics honours. She has done really well. Her sincerity and efforts have paid off,” said Debgupta.
