Panjab University allows 24/7 hostel entry to girls
Girls will now be able to exit their hostel at any hour, provided they stay within the campus. Earlier, they could not leave their hostels after 9pm.
The Panjab University (PU) Syndicate allowed 24/7 campus access to girls at the Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Centre, Hoshiarpur, on Saturday.
Girls will now be able to exit their hostel at any hour, provided they stay within the campus. Earlier, they could not leave their hostels after 9pm.
The syndicate held that the same rules that were applicable at the Chandigarh campus should apply to the Hoshiarpur regional centre.
At present, the girl residents at PU, Chandigarh, can exit and enter the hostel at any hour provided they make an entry in the register after 11pm. This was achieved after an intense protest that lasted for 47 days.
Girls at the Hoshiarpur campus have been protesting for gender equality on campus for nearly two years and on Saturday a delegation of students submitted a representation on the same to the syndicate.
