It was a close contest with Janata Dal (Secular)'s R.Manjunatha winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's S Muniraju by a margin of just 10,675 votes.
The top three candidates split 97.6% of votes between them. Janata Dal (Secular)'s R.Manjunatha got a total of 94,044 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's S Muniraju secured 83,369 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate P.N.Krishnamurthy grabbed the third spot with 31,711 votes. The top three parties got 43.9%, 38.9% and 14.8% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Bharatiya Janata Party's S Muniraju outperformed Indian National Congress's B L Shankar by 10,828 votes.
