Karur is one of the 232 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Karur district. People of Karur voted for Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.
Karur assembly constituency had 2,31,209 electors in 2016, out of which 1,10,871 were male voters and 1,20,336 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 1.6% votes.
In 2016, 22 candidates were contesting for Karur assembly constituency seat. Karur was one of 134 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was an extremely close competition, with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Vijayabhaskar .M.R narrowly winning the election defeating Indian National Congress's Subramanian .Bank .K by a vary little margin of 441 votes.
The top two candidates split 89.2% of votes between them. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Vijayabhaskar .M.R got a total of 81,936 votes, while Indian National Congress's Subramanian .Bank .K secured 81,495 votes. Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam's candidate Ravi .A secured 6,491 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 44.7%, 44.5% and 3.5% respectively.
In Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2011, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Senthil Balaji, V. beat Indian National Congress's Jothi Mani, S. by 44,145 votes.
