Madurai North comes under the Madurai district and it is one of the 232 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Madurai North voted for Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.
Madurai North assembly constituency had 2,33,677 electors in 2016, out of which 1,14,962 were male voters and 1,18,698 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 1.5% votes.
In the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Madurai North constituency had 21 candidates for assembly seat contention. Madurai North was one of 134 seats won by the Indian National Congress. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Rajan Chellappa V.V. won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's Karthikeyan V. by a margin of 18,839 votes.
The top three candidates split 92.7% of votes between them. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Rajan Chellappa V.V. got a total of 70,460 votes, while Indian National Congress's Karthikeyan V. secured 51,621 votes. Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam's candidate Mujupur Rahuman S. grabbed the third spot with 17,732 votes. The top three parties got 46.7%, 34.2% and 11.8% respectively.
In Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2011, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Bose.A.K outperformed Indian National Congress's Rajendran.K.S.K by 46,400 votes.
