Tamil Nadu Election: Rajapalayam Assembly Constituency 2022

Rajapalayam is one of the 232 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Virudhunagar district. People of Rajapalayam voted for Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.

In 2016, the Rajapalayam assembly seat had 2,21,788 registered voters. Of the, 1,09,280 were male and 1,12,487 were female voters. 1.0% of votes were casted for NOTA.

What happened last time

In the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election 2016, Rajapalayam constituency had 20 candidates for assembly seat contention. Rajapalayam was one of 89 seats won by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. It was a close contest with Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's Thangappandian. S. winning the election upstaging All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Shyam A.A.S. by a margin of just 4,802 votes.

The top two candidates split 86.0% of votes between them. Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's Thangappandian. S. got a total of 74,787 votes, while All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Shyam A.A.S. secured 69,985 votes. Communist Party Of India (Marxist)'s candidate Gurusamy. A. secured 12,505 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 44.4%, 41.6% and 7.4% respectively.

In Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2011, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's K.Gopalsamy outperformed Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's S.Thangapandian by 21,432 votes.
