Salman Khan has a lot to worry about as Bombay High Court on Friday granted four weeks time to the Centre to respond to a petition seeking enhancement of punishment for offenders in drunken driving cases and also for more compensation to the accident victims.
A division bench of justices Abhay Oka and AS Chandurkar was hearing the PIL seeking compensation from Salman Khan for the 2002 hit-and-run case victims.
The bench has also asked the additional solicitor general to seek instructions from the government and file a response to the PIL after a month.
A witness in the 14-year-old hit-and-run case involving Salman Khan, had allegedly told a Mumbai trial court last month that he had seen the actor in the driver's seat of his vehicle in a hotel's parking lot on the night incident took place.
On September 28, 2002, the actor's car had run over people sleeping on the pavement in Bandra, killing one and injuring four.
