Love Aaj Kal, directed by Imtiaz Ali, featured Sara opposite Kartik Aaryan. The romantic drama had a lot of expectations on it, especially since Sara's father, actor Saif Ali Khan had also acted in Love Aaj Kal (2009) with Imtiaz. Like the 2009 movie co-starring Deepika Padukone, the newer film also featured two sets of lovers separated by time. Sara also shared that while she was filming Love Aaj Kal, she was not able to see things clearly as they were in reality and miscalculated how she acted in the film. Earlier this year, Sara admitted that her performance in Love Aaj Kal was 'horrible'.

In an interview with Film Companion, she told Anupama Chopra, “I think that I've realised that it's not just my performance in Love Aaj Kal, it's a lot of things that I need to see first. I've always been the kind of person... when I feel I'm overweight, I don't try to cover it. I like to see things for what they are and I think that in 2019 for various reasons I was not able to do that. I was not really seeing the mirror for what it was.”

In Pawan Kripalani's Gaslight, Sara stars alongside Chitrangda Singh and Vikrant Massey. She played a young woman in a wheelchair who returns home to find her father missing and suspects her stepmother (Chitrangda) and others may have harmed him. Gaslight will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on March 31.

Sara was last seen in another Disney+ Hotstar film, Atrangi Re, directed by Aanand L Rai. She starred in the film opposite Akshay Kumar and Dhanush. She also has the films Ae Watan Mere Watan and Anurag Basu's Metro In Dino due to be released later this year.
