Bhumi Pednekar worked as assistant casting director at Yash Raj Films before she made her debut in acting. Her first film Dum Laga Ke Haisha released in 2015, four years after her father's death. Her debut film earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, she had said, "We were quite young. I was 18, Samiksha was probably 15 when we lost our dad due to cancer. We saw him through prolonged sickness and really suffer a lot. Obviously, losing a parent is never easy and I had a wonderful father. He was just a father. We miss him every day but my mom is made of something else, she really got us together. I think just us as a family, we went into warrior mode post that."

After Dum Laga Ke Haisha, she went on to feature in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017), Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), Sonchiriya (2019), Bala (2019), Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019), Saand Ki Aankh (2019).

Recently, the actor revealed that she would feature in the Akshay Kumar-starrer Raksha Bandhan. This would mark the third collaboration between Akshay and Bhumi after the duo shared screen space in the 2017 film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. The two have also worked together on Bhumi's Durgamati, on which Akshay served as co-producer. Bhumi also has Badhaai Do with Rajkummar Rao and Mr Lele with Vicky Kaushal in the pipeline.
