Marvel sprung a surprise for its fans on Friday evening, dropping a look at its upcoming tentpole, Avengers: Doomsday, just a couple of weeks after the trailer. The new video, unveiled after a cryptic countdown, gives the backstory of Doctor Doom, the film’s antagonist played by Robert Downey Jr, and the Avengers and X-Men’s efforts to stop him.
Avengers Doomsday special look
The 2-minute, 10-second special look opens with Victor von Doom sitting on this throne as Sue Storm’s voice informs that he was always ‘the smartest person in the room’ and how he got lost after his loved ones were taken from him. We see Sue (Vanessa Kirby) talk to Magneto (Ian McKellen), Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Gambit (Channing Tatum). This follows a montage of a world laid to waste, after which Reed (Pedro Pascal) confronts Doom about whether he did this.
The video then kicks into high gear as Thor takes on Doom (Robert Downey Jr), promising he will ‘beg for hell’. But Doom nonchalantly blocks the God of Thunder, flicking him away easily. He then delivers a line that is sure to become iconic: “Hell answers to me, for I am Doom.” He then unleashes his Sentinels on the world. The video was unveiled at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
