I want to help society however I can: Jackie Shroff

“I am looking forward to making short public interest films on thalassaemia, polio and other life threatening diseases,” says Jackie Shroff.

It seems Jackie Shroff is always looking for a chance to give back to society. A few months ago, he joined hands with a non-profit organisation that helps build classrooms for the underprivileged, and he is currently helping raise awareness about thalassaemia, an inherited blood disorder in which the body creates an abnormal amount of haemoglobin. Speaking about the initiative, the actor says, “I have seen a lot of ups and downs in life, so, I want to help society however I can. I like to be associated with social causes and try to make a difference whenever I can. I am looking forward to making short public interest films on thalassaemia, polio and other life threatening diseases.”

Jackie is in talks with Pune-based Jasmine Majethia, who works towards creating awareness on thalassaemia. “I sincerely urge couples to match their blood groups before planning a kid. It will solve so many problems. My heart aches to see the young suffer because their parents were careless,” the actor says.

Jackie was in the city to inaugurate a store that sells apparel made by the inmates of Yerwada Jail, and he appeared impressed by the items on sale. He says, “It is very industrious of the inmates to create the items. They have put in a lot of hard work and the stuff is pretty economical. I bought a towel worth Rs 120 and a shirt for less than Rs 200. We need to change our thinking process and encourage them.”
