Noted Malayalam actor-director Sreenivasan died at a private hospital near Kochi on Saturday morning, news agency PTI reported, citing film industry sources. He was 69.
Malayalam actor Sreenivasan dies

He was admitted to the hospital at Tripunithura on Friday night. He passed away this morning.
Sreenivasan, who hails from Kannur, had been staying in Kochi for the past several years. Apart from acting, he was also a director, screenwriter, dubbing artist, and producer. His two sons, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan, are also actors.
Sreenivasan's stellar career
Sreenivasan acted in over 200 films, debuting with Manimuzhakkam in 1976. He studied at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. His first lead role came in the 1979 film Sanghaganam. In the 80s and 90s, he appeared in many top Malayalam hits.
As a director, he delivered acclaimed films. He famously wrote and directed Vadakkunokkiyanthram (1989), which won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film, and Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala (1998), which won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues.
Apart from his acting and direction, he was widely regarded as one of the most influential screenwriters of his generation, having won two Kerala State Film Awards for Best Screenplay.
