This Diwali, actor Pulkit Samrat is helping stray dogs by setting up a shelter to save them from the noise of loud firecrackers and from the risk of injury caused by the same. A source says, “Pulkit is a dog lover. He owns two dogs himself. He wanted to do something different this Diwali. So he has decided to set up a shelter for the stray canines in his area, which is Lokhandwala in Andheri west. Many of these strays get injured during Diwali because of firecrackers.”

Animal welfare officer, Nandita Saigal, who works with many organisations dedicated to the cause of animals in Mumbai, is helping Pulkit with setting up the same.

The source adds, “He plans to round up stray pooches in and around the locality that he lives in and put them in the shelter that he has set up. Pulkit is arranging for them to be taken care of till the festival ends and it’s safe for the dogs to venture out. The place will have food and water for the strays.”

Ask Pulkit about this venture and he says, “I love dogs, and this is just a temporary set-up for them. I would like to do more for them as and when I get the opportunity to do so.”
