Iqbal Meer Sharma, the South African businessman of Indian origin, who was allegedly assaulted by Saif Ali Khan at a restaurant in south Mumbai on Tuesday, has rubbished the actor’s allegations that he had assaulted the actor.
“It [Saif’s statement] is completely fabricated. And if his version of my assaulting him is true, then why did he not approach the restaurant authorities immediately? Why did he not approach the police like I did? And where was he throughout the day on Wednesday?” asked Sharma.
Sharma also negated Saif’s claim that he knew the actor. “It is the man’s arrogance that makes him think that I know him. I live in South Africa and I do not watch Hindi films. Why else would he assume that I know him if it were not for his arrogance?”
Besides, Sharma said, the dispute could have been resolved, had Khan not resorted to violence. “Whatever allegations he is making are only because he wants to defend his story. They are obviously fabricated. The clash could have been squashed easily if he would not have physically assaulted us.”
Agitated with the actor’s statement that Sharma’s nose did not appear broken, the businessman said, “I did not know he was a medical doctor. He can go to GT Hospital and fight with the X-ray if he likes.”

{{/usCountry}}Sharma had filed a complaint against Khan with the Colaba police on early Wednesday morning stating that the actor had assaulted him and his father-in-law, Dr Raman Patel, at a plush south Mumbai restaurant.
On Wednesday evening, the actor was booked for assaulting Sharma. He was later released on bail. He, however, filed a counter-complaint under Indian Penal Code section 325 for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
