Alright, we are saying it. If you are not thinking gold, the hottest colour of this season, when it comes to party outfits, you’re not ‘in’. Fashion forecasters have unanimously voted for the precious metallic shade and celebs, right from our very own style divas Priyanka Chopra and Kangna Ranaut to international stylistas such as Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep, have not wasted any time in latching on to the big trend.
While Chopra and Ranaut dazzled in a golden sari and a Diane Von Furstenberg gown respectively, at the Balaji Global Indian Film and TV Awards held in Mumbai on Thursday night, Lawrence flaunted a shimmering golden Prabal Gurung gown at the Los Angeles premiere of Hunger Games on Monday. And at Oscars this year, actors Meryl Streep, Stacy Keibler and Ellie Kemper, too, went for resplendent gold gowns.
Back home in Delhi, designers and high-street brands, too, report a big surge in the demand of metallic gold party tops and dresses this season. Designer Rohit Bal says, “Gold and glamour share a relationship. The Paris and Milan Fashion Week were high on bling this time and closer home, I have a long list of clients going for gold.” Designer Suneet Varma says, “The colour gold is a classic. It works best on Indian skin tone. I am seeing a huge demand for gold, be it a golden gown, sari or lehenga.”

Designer Kavita Bhartia of Ogaan says, “With so many celebrities vouching for gold, the demand has multiplied several times.” However, designer Tarun Tahiliani warns, “Never go over the top with gold or you could look funny.”
