Gone are the days when the sari was a drape confined to its traditional threshold. Today, it is assertive and bold, making a statement not only at customary dos, but at casual occasions as well. Recently, designer duo Shivan & Narresh launched their ‘resort sari’ line, which comprised the traditional garb altered in a way that it suits a holiday setting.
"It is cumbersome to carry silk and cotton saris on a holiday, and be bothered about ironing and pleating them. This is where the idea of the resort sari germinated. It is hassle-free, and as it is tailored to be pre-stitched, it abolishes the woes of creasing and pleating," says Narresh, adding, "The idea was to dress the Indian woman elegantly while she is holidaying, but at the same time not make her compromise on her cultural roots."
Meanwhile, designer duo Shantanu & Nikhil have created an ensemble called the ‘sari gown’. Soon, they will also launch the ‘jumpsuit sari’. "These saris are for women who are ready to experiment with innovative drapes. One can innovate with a sari by accessorising it with a brooch, a pair of hand gloves, a cape collar or even a belt," says Nikhil.
