Sartorial blunders of the decade

The last decade saw B-town’s resident divas make some very unflattering sartorial choices. Here’s the worst of the lot.

From international pop stars and actors making a beeline for cameos in our desi films to some stalwart movies reaching the hallowed Oscar ground, the last decade was undoubtedly a big one for Bollywood and it’s stellar stars.



But more than these stalwart moments, what we can’t seem to forget are the fashion disasters some of B-town’s usually stylish leading ladies fell victim to.



Let alone being seen in public in these sartorial weapons of mass destruction, we’re surprised that these ladies decided to even let these pieces into their wardrobe. We just hope they took the boos and jeers these appearances raised seriously. Repeats of such blunders would only scar them and us for life.



Priyanka Chopra

Seen at: The 56th National Film Awards, 2010

This former beauty queen turned up to meet the President of the country in what remotely resembles a table cloth which our grandmothers used to adore once upon a time. And pairing it with a blouse that seems more apt for the pool side than an awards do, hardly helps the case here. And to think she won the award for a film called Fashion! This sari has hopefully been retired, sans any accolades.

Rani Mukerji

Rani is one actor who always looks amazing in Indian ensembles, and lately she’s been hitting one style sixer after another. But this particular instance was an exception. And certainly not in a good way. The halter neck tiny blouse to the jewelled pattern and the actual jewellery she’s wearing, this is proof why we all need to know when to just say, no. In this case we hope Rani has said no to this outfit for forever.

Malika Sherawat

We know to be on the same red carpet as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie must have been quite unnerving. Still, that’s not an excuse for this ‘dress’. We just hope Mallika has learned her lesson and has voluntarily retired this ensemble.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Back in 2003, when it was announced that Aishwarya would be attending the Cannes Festival, a frenzy broke out debating what and who she’ll wear on the red carpet. And all the hopes of the country’s fashionistas were slashed when she turned up in this green sari. Though in her defence she had a fractured leg after an injury on the sets of a film. Still, we hope with the cast, she threw this away too.
