Remember the little white cuties in the TV commercial for a mobile service whose gibberish became a rage during the IPL. Fans who miss the eggheads, can now bring them home — Zoo Zoo t-shirts are already on the stands. Kidswear, mugs, bed and bath accessories featuring the mascot will also be available soon in the market.
“Zoo Zoos have amassed a devout fan-following and this compelled us to bring them closer to fans in the form of merchandise,” says Vodafone Essar chief marketing officer Kumar Ramanathan.
Though Shoppers Stop has gained the exclusive rights to manufacture and retail Zoo Zoo merchandise, the t-shirts are readily available in Delhi’s flee markets. A Zoo Zoo t-shirt, available for Rs 399 at Shoppers Stop, can be bargained for Rs 150 to Rs 200 in Sarojini Nagar or Janpath. “Around 25 to 30 shops sell Zoo Zoo t-shirts in Janpath. I sell around 20 to 30 Zoo Zoo t-shirts everyday,” says Rameshwar Singh Patel, a salesman in Janpath.
“There has been a fantastic response to the Zoo Zoo t-shirts so far. We have sold thousands of those already, and the demand is more than what we expected. We plan to add more styles to the t-shirts regularly,” says Says Vinay Bhatia, CCA & vice president - Marketing & Loyalty, Shopper’s Stop. Bhatia further adds, “We will be launching Zoo Zoo kidswear and mugs in the next 45 days.”
MBA student Shweta Nag has bought herself a Zoo Zoo t-shirt. “But I would love to buy Zoo Zoo stuffed toys,” she says, adding, “I am sure they will take over the everlasting Teddy bears.”
