Despite repair orders, Gurgaon expressway service lanes full of potholes

The direction to repair the road was given to the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) on June 16 on a complaint of highway concessionaire MCEPL. The concessionaire alleged that despite repeated assurances, the corporation has not repaired the roads and filled potholes. The corporation was supposed to file a status report on August 5. But neither the report was submitted, nor the repair work has taken place, said officials of MCEPL. The complaint in this regard was filed in June.

The waterlogging on July 28 further damaged the roads and they now need immediate repair.

An MCEPL official said the corporation assured them that potholes will be repaired by August 5 and a status report will also be filed, but nothing has happened.

“When nothing happened, we were forced to complain in June again,” said Raghuraman.

The concessionaire also flagged the issue in its complaint to the highway administrator’s court, stating that the damaged road could prove dangerous due to waterlogging at Hero Honda Chowk and in the service lanes.

“There are encroachments on both sides of the service roads. Also, illegal sewage pipes choke the drains and have also broken the roads. The corporation needs to act soon,” said Raghuraman.

On June 16, the highway administrator’s court directed the MCG to repair the service roads between Hero Honda Chowk and Kherki Daula, which have developed potholes.

MCG executive engineer Mohd Zubair, meanwhile, said that they have repaired some of the potholes but finishing the work will take some time.

“Massive waterlogging caused more damages and the status report was delayed. We will finish the work in a couple of days,” he said.

The MCG said it is carrying out repair and maintenance work of roads and drains across the city on war-footing.
