Gurgaon: Huda warns NHAI contractor over damage to water pipeline

Huda’s master water pipeline is aligned with the expressway, which is being widened by the NHAI.

The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has warned the contractor hired by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for widening the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway of lodging a police complaint if there is further damage to the master water pipeline.

Huda’s master water pipeline is aligned with the expressway, which is being widened by the NHAI.

The master water pipeline burst on Monday and water gushed out for hours along the service lane of the expressway near Sector 17C at Iffco Chowk. This is the second time that the pipeline was affected in the last one-and-a-half months.

“I sent my engineers to the site to immediately stop water supply from the plant and repair the pipeline. I was told that the pipeline burst during the road widening work by the NHAI-appointed contractor. I have told my staff to warn the contractor of lodging a police complaint and also hold a meeting with the NHAI so that our engineers are consulted before any digging,” Yashpal Yadav, Huda administrator, said.

A senior Huda engineer said, “We have been ordered to lodge a police complaint if the water pipeline is damaged again. We have rectified the situation but it caused wastage of treated water. The pipeline was ruptured by the contractor at the same location in February as well.”

“The leakage in the first week of February was not fixed even after we met Huda engineers, who left it up to the NHAI contractor. The pipeline burst at the same place when it was hit by an earthmover machine on Monday. However, Huda has still not taken any action against the contractor,” Satish Solanki of Sector 17C, said.

AK Sharma, the project director of NHAI, said, “We will take note of such negligence.”
