Gurgaon: Metal locket saves woman from bullet of spurned lover

The accused, Ashok Kumar, 27, a deputy manager at an electronics showroom in Sahara Mall on MG road, was arrested from the spot and sent to jail on Tuesday, police said.

The incident, police said, took place at 8pm on Monday when Ashok came to meet Tabasi Nandi at Sadbhavna Apartment in Sector 55 where she lives. Ashok, a resident of Surat Nagar was in a relationship with Tabasi for seven months now and had proposed to marry her several times. Tabasi, who works with a private company in Udyog Vihar, turned down his proposal.

During an argument that unfolded in the compound of the block, Ashok took out a country-made pistol and shot at Tabasi from a close range, police said. Tabasi hails from West Bengal.

Fortunately, the bullet hit Tabasi’s locket and she was left unharmed. Soon, hearing the sound of the bullet shot , residents came out and nabbed Ashok who was later handed over to the police. Tabasi was taken to a private hospital where she was discharged after treatment.

“Ashok was arrested from the spot, produced before a court where he was sent to a judicial custody,” said sub inspector Babu Lal, the investigation officer.

The incident happened close on the heels of a 22-year-old schoolteacher’s death after a man, whose marriage proposal she had rejected, stabbed her more than 20 times on a busy road in north Delhi’s Burari on Tuesday.
